Jim Gray Tribute by the Right Honourable Stephen Harper
I am pleased to extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the Canada West Foundation Gala.
Tonight, you have gathered to pay tribute to Mr. Jim Gray for his commitment to western Canada. A legend in business circles, Jim Gray co-founded one of the country’s largest and most successful natural gas companies, Canadian Hunter Exploration. In a long career marked by achievement, his sound judgment and long-term vision have been instrumental in the growth and prosperity of the country’s oil and gas sector. Not content with business success, Mr. Gray has devoted his energies and talents to improving the quality of life of his fellow Calgarians. For over four decades, his strong leadership qualities have benefited a myriad of community organizations, particularly those focusing on children and families.
I would like to offer Mr. Gray my sincere congratulations as his history of service is recognized today. His selfless dedication serves as an inspiration to all Canadians, and I am certain that he will take great satisfaction in knowing that he has helped to make a positive contribution to his community. The creation of the Jim Gray Award for Outstanding Contribution will be a fitting legacy, recognizing those Western Canadians who reflect his remarkable example of vision and generosity.
I would also like to join you in giving special thanks to members of Canada West Foundation hosting this event. The Foundation is one of Canada’s premier research institutes, and proceeds from tonight’s dinner will support it in its continuing mission to promote a distinctive western perspective on Canadian policy issues.
