Retired CEO, United Way Winnipeg
Susan Lewis retired from United Way Winnipeg in November 2014 after more than 40 years of service with that organization. Nearly 30 of those years were as President & CEO. Of her many accomplishments, during the mid-1990s she launched a transformational change process that led to a new vision and new operating model, and restructured every functional area of United Way Winnipeg.
In 2006, Susan led the formation of the Winnipeg Poverty Reduction Council (WPRC) which included leadership from all sectors working together. The work of WPRC has led to a community wide focus on critical issues and initiatives such as homelessness and early childhood development.
When the United Way moved offices, Susan turned used the opportunity to help drive the revitalization of Winnipeg’s downtown. The creation of a Learning and Innovation Centre is a space that ultimately saved money over leasing similar space. In addition, she ensured no donor dollars were used to fund the construction or ongoing operations.
Susan has served on many boards and advisory councils and continues to do so in her retirement. Among her many honours, she was invested into the Order of Canada in 2015.
