Brett Gartner

Brett is the Canada West Foundation's Senior Economist, having joined the Foundation in October of 2006. Originally from Saskatchewan, Brett Brett Gartner has a keen interest in economic and public policy issues facing the West. He received a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) and Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Saskatchewan. Upon completing his studies, Brett worked in different analytical and research positions at Statistics Canada. More recently Brett served as Economist, Western Canada for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. In this capacity he conducted research on a wide variety of issues facing the small and medium-sized business sector. In his current role, Brett is responsible for the Canada West Foundation’s provincial economic profile and forecast series, as well as Currents, a monthly economic snapshot of the four western provinces. In addition to keeping a close eye on economic conditions in the West, Brett has worked on a variety topics including interprovincial trade, provincial government finances, compensation of senior level public officials and western Canadian demographic trends.
