Calgary, AB – Arts management professional and cultural policy specialist Angie Gélinas has joined the Canada West Foundation as a senior fellow.

Colleen Collins, the Foundation’s Vice-President and Interim CEO, said Gélinas is a force to be reckoned with in the cultural policy space.

“Angie has experience both living and breathing the arts and providing leadership to practical cultural policy development. Her contributions to the Canada West Foundation will make a difference,” Collins said.

“We are so pleased to welcome her to our team of research fellows.”

Gélinas, a former Government of Saskatchewan deputy minister, has more than 20 years of non-profit experience producing theatre, developing arts spaces and developing cultural public policy. She has previously provided a variety of consulting services to clients, including the City of Calgary Heritage Branch, Calgary Economic Development, SaskCulture and Canada Council for the Arts. She most recently served as managing director of Calgary Opera.

Gélinas also managed Regina’s Globe Theatre and Nova Scotia’s Atlantic Theatre Festival. Before moving to Calgary, she was Deputy Minister of Saskatchewan Culture, Youth and Recreation.

“When framed and supported in good public policy, the arts and culture sector has demonstrated that it can meaningfully contribute to our communities both socially and economically,” said Gélinas. “I am excited at the opportunity to explore this area of public policy as part of the Canada West Foundation research fellows team.”
