Despite being a water-rich country, Canada’s water supply is not infinite and is distributed unevenly. Southern Alberta is amongst the regions reaching the limits of local water supply. The province faces numerous water management challenges and the antidote to these challenges lies in water conservation.

Balancing Act—prepared by Canada West Foundation’s Policy Analyst, Karen Wilkie—discusses a variety of water conservation policy options that can potentially reduce demand on Alberta’s water resources. In addition, it identifies barriers to advancing water conservation initiatives, and recommends future directions for addressing these barriers and improving water conservation.
