Ms. Surkan is a well-established and respected contributor to the policy and governance fields in Alberta with deep experience in board governance, policy formation, strategic and business planning, strategic alliances and community/customer relationships.
Her governance/board experience includes 12 years as Mayor of the City of Red Deer and five years as Chair of the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, along with current and past service on the boards of Ensign Energy Services, Alberta Agricultural Financial Services Corporation, ATB Financial, University of Alberta, Community Savings Credit Union and the 2019 Canada Winter Games. In addition, she has served on numerous other national and provincial organizations including the Provincial Health Council of Alberta, Frosst Health Care Foundation, Alberta Economic Development Authority, Alberta Strategic Tourism Marketing Council and Central Alberta Economic Partnership.
Ms. Surkan is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan. She has twice been named by Venture Magazine as one of the 50 most influential people in Alberta.
