Barry W. Worbets
Senior Fellow

Barry Worbets is a Senior Fellow at the Canada West Foundation. His more than 35 years of professional experience has been focused on the intersection of business and environmental realities. He has a reputation for getting “stuff” done in the areas of environmental stewardship, aboriginal business engagement, training, employment and consultation. Barry has just completed leading an initiative with Parks Foundation Calgary to reconstruct the weir on the Bow River in downtown Calgary—Harvie Passage. He has a passion for the environment, particularly here in western Canada.

Barry has worked with the Canada West Foundation on numerous projects, including as the lead on a Natural Capital project, which in small part was responsible for initiating Alberta’s Land use Framework. He is respected by many environment, energy and policy stakeholders and has a great ability to bring together people, ideas and resources in creative projects, which will serve him well in this role.

In 2001, the Emerald Foundation for Environmental Excellence recognized Mr. Worbets for his corporate leadership. Barry has had executive roles in numerous energy companies including, Statoil, North American Oil Sands Corp., Husky Energy, Canterra Energy, Aquitaine Company of Canada and Dome Petroleum. In these companies he has lead their Environmental, Health and Safety, Corporate Social Responsibility, Aboriginal business engagement programs and has worked in virtually all parts of Canada both on and offshore.

Born and raised in rural Alberta, Mr. Worbets graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.Sc. and the University of Calgary with a Masters of Environmental Design.
