President and CEO
Martha Hall Findlay is President and CEO of the Canada West Foundation, an independent, non-partisan public policy think tank that focuses on the policies that shape the West, and by extension, Canada. Through evidence-based research and commentary, the Canada West Foundation provides practical solutions to tough public policy challenges at home and on the global stage.
As a corporate lawyer, senior business executive and successful entrepreneur, Martha has more than 25 years of domestic and international experience with major multinationals as well as start-ups, primarily in telecommunications and technology.
She was a Member of Parliament from 2008 to 2011, serving in several capacities in the Shadow Cabinet, and as a member of the House of Commons Standing Committees for Finance; Transport, Infrastructure and Communities; Government Operations; and International Trade. She is currently a member of the Minister of International Trade’s Trade Expert Advisory Council.
Martha has served as an Advisory Council member, Board Director and/or Executive for several policy, environmental, community and cultural organizations. She is a Member of the Board of Protein Industries Canada, Member of the Board of Governors for the Glenbow Museum, and an Executive Fellow of the Ivey Energy Policy and Management Centre, Western University. She is also on the Advisory Councils of Energy Futures Lab; Positive Energy (University of Ottawa); the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations, School of Policy Studies, Queen’s University; Calgary Sport and Major Events. She is the former Chair of the Board of Directors of Alpine Canada (She is a former national ski racer). Martha is a regular contributor to the Globe and Mail, has written dozens of articles, reports and essays on key policy issues, and is a frequent public speaker and media commentator.
