These roundtables seek out new thinking to strengthen the prosperity and quality of life for western Canadians.

Informal but intense, the Hon. James A. Richardson Discovery Roundtables discussions are designed to engage a small group of individuals with a background in — and a passion for — public policy topics of particular concern to the West. The roundtables were established to look beyond the horizon and gain a sense of the policy challenges to come, and then determine how today’s policy research agenda can address those challenges.

The Hon. James A. Richardson was one of the four founders of the Canada West Foundation. Mr. Richardson’s suggestion at the historic One Prairie Conference in 1970 led to the creation of the Canada West Council (later renamed Foundation) as a registered charity on Dec. 31, 1970.

The Foundation launched the Honourable James A. Richardson Discovery Roundtables in 2006 with a generous donation by the Richardson family to the Founders’ Endowment Fund.
