The University of Ottawa’s Positive Energy Project and the Canada West Foundation present ENGAGE: Canadian communities & energy decision making, an evening reception and conference in Ottawa, Ontario

Keynote speakers: The Hon. James Carr, Minister of Natural Resources; Perry Bellegarde, National Chief, Assembly of First Nations

Energy development has become increasingly contested at the local level. While opposition to pipelines is top of mind, energy projects of all stripes – from wind farms and other renewable energy sources like hydropower, to gas plants, transmission infrastructure, nuclear waste storage, and fracking – have confronted powerful local opposition in various communities. What is driving these energy conflicts and how do we fix it?

This conference brings together energy leaders from the public, private, academic, Indigenous and NGO sectors to address this question in a systematic way across a variety of energy sub-sectors. It features the results of cutting-edge research by the University of Ottawa’s Positive Energy project and the Canada West Foundation.

The event is impact-driven and structured to drive toward identifying not only what needs to be done when it comes to community confidence in energy development but how it should be done and who should do it.
