On January 27, 2016, the Canada West Foundation, with Canadians for Clean Prosperity and Bennett Jones LLP, convened four expert panelists to dive deep into Alberta’s new climate plan. The speakers, including Andrew Leach, the chair of the province’s climate advisory panel, also faced questions from the audience about how Alberta can improve its environmental credibility yet still get its energy economy moving.

The panel included Eric Axford, Executive Vice-President, Business Services, Suncor; Hal Kvisle, Chair, ARC Resources; and, Mark Cameron, Executive Director, Canadians for Clean Prosperity. Trevor McLeod, director of the Canada West Foundation Centre for Natural Resources Policy, moderated the event.

Watch the discussion to see the panel talk about what’s taken place in Alberta with the new plan, why it matters and what needs to happen next, particularly when it comes to industry and political reception, competitiveness and carbon tax.
