Just when you thought the U.S. campaign couldn’t get any more riveting, Biden resigns, Harris takes the reigns and then appoints relatively unknown Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

Suddenly, the Dems are back in the race, raising a whole new set of questions for Canadian businesses. Who is Tim Walz? What is his attitude toward trade and tariffs? What would a Harris / Walz administration mean for Canada – particularly Western Canada, where a third of GDP, the highest percentage in Canada, relies on exports to the U.S.

Join Tim Mahoney, former Democratic Congressman, who served with Walz in Congress from 2007-09, as he provides us with insights on the new Democratic presidential ticket.

SPEAKER

Tim Mahoney
Founder, Caribou LLC CEO

Tim Mahoney represented Florida’s 16th Congressional District in the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2009. During his tenure, the pro-business Democrat won awards for being “The Man in The Middle” and the “Most Effective New Member of Congress.”

A Canadian connection: Tim’s work in the energy sector began by leading the first U.S. Congressional Delegation to Canada’s Oil Sands. Upon returning to the private sector, Tim continues to work with Canada’s leading oil producers to promote policies that increase trade between Canada and the United States. Tim’s efforts were recognized by the Government of Alberta with his receipt of the Queens’s Platinum Jubilee Medal.

While serving in the House, Tim’s work on the Financial Services and Agriculture Committees resulted in the passage of landmark legislation in renewable energy, low-income senior housing and catastrophic insurance. He considers the passage of legislation that saved funding for free public transportation for the elderly and Americans with disabilities his most significant accomplishment.
