With two large-scale changes taking place in Canadian cities—increased urbanization and increased municipal responsibility—it is hard to deny their growing importance. Based on a series of newspaper scans, interviews, and examinations of provincial municipal affairs, Issues 2000: Challenges on the Urban Western Landscape focuses on and identifies key issues found in the western cities of Canada, arguably the most dynamic cities in the country.

This report was prepared by Casey Vander Ploeg, the Canada West Foundation’s Director of Governance Projects, along with Research Assistants, Glenn Blackette and Michael Bates.
