Bernie Morton welcomed
as Chief Operating Officer
March 12, 2025 – The Canada West Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Bernie Morton as its new Chief Operating Officer, effective March 20, 2025. A seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in public affairs, governance and strategic management, Morton brings a wealth of expertise from both the public and private sectors.
As CWF continues to deliver practical, evidence-based policy solutions for Western Canada, Morton’s leadership will strengthen the organization’s operational capacity and impact. He has worked at all levels of government and advised national and international clients on strategic planning, governance and public affairs.

A proven leader in governance and public affairs
Morton’s career spans multiple leadership roles. Serving as National Vice President at Crestview Strategy, Morton led national practices in strategic communications, government relations and crisis management. He also held Chief Administrative Officer positions in two Western Canadian municipalities, directing organizational transformations, fiscal reforms and service improvements.
His governance experience includes serving on national advisory panels, contributing to economic policy, and holding board positions with various organizations. Recognized as an award-winning strategist and governance expert, Morton’s work has influenced public policy and economic development across Canada.
Beyond his professional achievements, Morton is an accomplished member of the soccer community as a former national board director for Canada Soccer, volunteer with the Calgary minor Soccer Association, coach mentor and youth coach.
Morton and his wife, Tricia, are proud Canadians and grateful parents of four boys.
