CALGARY, AB July 1, 2014 – The Canada West Foundation congratulates Dr. David Elton, who served as president of the Foundation from 1980 to 1997, for his appointment to the Order of Canada.

Dr. Elton, now president of the Max Bell Foundation, played a number of key roles related to western Canada’s rise in importance on the national stage.

Now Professor Emeritus of political science at the University of Lethbridge, he taught there for more than 30 years.
His philanthropy matches his academic achievement. He leads a number of philanthropic organizations and initiatives, including Max Bell.

Throughout his career, Dr. Elton has made many unique contributions to both the growth of the philanthropic sector and to the development of public policy in Alberta and across Canada.

“Dr. Elton embodies so many great Western virtues: compassion, decency, innovation and independent thinking,” said Dylan Jones, President & CEO of the Foundation. “I’m honoured to know him and delighted at his induction into the Order of Canada.”
