The West in Canada
When the Canada West Foundation was created almost 40 years ago, its founders realized that a better understanding of western Canada and greater input from the region into national decisions were essential elements of both a thriving and prosperous West and a thriving and prosperous Canada. If parts of the country are misunderstood, ignored or treated unfairly, all Canadians suffer.
Canada is a wonderfully diverse place with its people spread across the second largest country in the world. There are many things that tie us together as Canadians, but there is no doubt that each part of the country is unique and brings a different set of characteristics and perspectives to the national table. Understanding and integrating this diversity is a challenge as big as Canada itself.
As the country continues to wrestle with a wide range of public policy challenges, the Canada West Foundation is furthering its efforts to ensure that western Canadians are heard and understood. The West in Canada Project aims to showcase policy innovation in the West, communicate regional aspirations and build on common ground.
