A nation’s standard of living is dependent on the financial and economic well-being of its cities. Thus, local conditions, such as the health and livability of cities are becoming increasingly important. With that idea in mind, Framing a Fiscal Fix-Up sets out to address the following question, “What are the alternatives available to place western cities on a more secure financial foundation?” From big city governments to expert commentators, this paper provides a multitude of answers, with the intention of stimulating debate and discussions.

Authored by the Canada West’s Foundation Senior Policy Analyst, Casey Vander Ploeg, this study is based on a comprehensive literature review combined with ideas that have emerged at a series of recent forums and conferences held across Canada.
