CALGARY, AB Mar. 8, 2016 – Today, the Prime Minister announced the appointment of Dylan Jones as Deputy Minister of Western Economic Diversification, effective June 20, 2016.

Jones joined the Canada West Foundation as President & CEO in June 2012.

Under his leadership, the Foundation’s media readership has doubled, its work has been strategic and high impact and its reputation for effective, non-partisan research that makes a difference in the lives of westerners has continued to grow.

The Canada West Foundation’s work continues to be vital because of the profound role of western Canada within the nation, the continent and the world. The 21st century presents the greatest opportunity to improve living conditions in human history. As billions of people enter the emerging global middle class, the essential ingredients will be food, energy and materials. The West can provide them and the related know-how like no one else can. Yet to do that, the West will need to transform its approach to education, include indigenous people fully in its economy, maintain a world-class infrastructure system, get climate change policy right, and do so much more. This will require collaboration between civil society, government and industry and that collaboration, as well as insight and good research, are what the Canada West Foundation is all about.
Dylan Jones, President & CEO, Canada West Foundation

Dylan will be greatly missed. However, one of his legacies is building an outstanding team at the Canada West Foundation. Their work will continue to provide outstanding public policy leadership to western Canada.
Geoff Plant, Chair, Canada West Foundation

Jones will be leaving the Foundation effective May 27, 2016. A search for another outstanding leader will be underway shortly.

The Canada West Foundation focuses on the policies that shape the West’s quality of life. For more than 40 years, we have been a passionate advocate for western Canada.
